Course Description:

This session of the PDPM Master Class Series will review essential competencies for PDPM success including, but not limited to, ICD-10 coding, Section GG assessment, and MDS coding with special focus on nursing clinical competencies to identify, assess, and manage Nursing and NTA conditions and services.  Suggested processes for evaluating facility level of competency in certain areas will be reviewed while creating effective staff development processes for initial and ongoing education, skills development, and cross-training to avoid gaps in competency related to employee turn-over will be emphasized.

Learning Objectives

  1. Review PDPM core competency essentials
  2. Identify potential areas of opportunity for competency development within the individual facility through a process of competency evaluation
  3. Develop systems for initial and ongoing competency evaluation and education

Course Content

20 minutes – Overview of PDPM competency considerations including, but not limited to, ICD-10 coding, Section GG assessment, and MDS coding

30 minutes – Examine Nursing and NTA conditions and services and review ways to evaluate staff and increase ability to support medically complex residents

20 minutes – Review effective systems for initial and ongoing education and identification of gaps in competency

5 minutes – Closing Comments/Q&A
